Tummy Tuck Surgery

By Andre Caring

A tummy tuck, also called abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure performed by plastic surgeons in Phoenix, that is designed to minimize excess fat and skin in the abdominal area. This accumulation of tissue can occur due to genetics, aging, one or more pregnancies, or weight loss. Abdominal muscles can also be firmed and tightened during the surgery to give patients a smoother and more toned midsection.

A variety of tummy tuck procedures are available to meet the needs of men and women alike. Surgeons guide their patients to the best options for them based on factors such as the shape and size of the abdomen and the amount of excess fat and skin to be removed. Your surgeons goal will be to help you achieve the best results with the least amount of scarring. The most widely-used types of tummy tuck surgery include: traditional abdominoplasty, mini tummy tuck, endoscopic abdominoplasty, and a procedure known as an extended tummy tuck.

Traditional tummy tucks works well for men and women with a medium to large amount of excess skin and tissue in the abdominal area. First, a horizontal cut is made in the lower pubic area. Second, the belly button is moved and the abdominal walls are tightened. Any undesirable fat and tissue is then surgically removed. Next, the cosmetic surgeon pulls down the remaining skin to create a new belly-button and close up the incision. Drainage tubes will likely be used to drain fluids, which can accumulate around the incision site and inhibit healing.

Patients without a lot of extra abdominal skin or protruding muscle may benefit from a mini tummy tuck. It uses a smaller horizontal incision and usually does not require repositioning of the belly button. The surgery is finalized in a similar manner to the traditional abdominoplasty.

Extended abdominoplasty is a variation of abdominoplasty surgery that is often recommended for patients who have complaints about the lower back and sides (love handles) as well as the tummy area. A longer incision extending behind the hips is necessary for this procedure. The plastic surgeon removes skin and fat from the entire area, tightens the abdominal muscles, and repositions or reconstructs the navel.

What is known as an Endoscopic Abdominoplasty is a procedure that Plastic surgeons agree is a great option for male or female patients with protruding abdominal muscles, but not a lot of excess tissue. During an endoscopic tummy tuck, skin is not removed and there is very little scarring. This minimally invasive procedure uses very small incisions through which long, thin instruments are inserted to tighten and suture the abdominal muscles - 14130
