Understanding Vaporizers

By Robert McGregor

Are you concerned about the ill effects of smoking? Don't you wish there was better way to get the helpful ingredients of herbs and other plants without ingesting bitter pills or receiving painful injections? If you said "yes" to the previous questions, you could use a vaporizer.

A vaporizer is a device that takes out and brings out the active ingredients of plants and herbs. This is achieved by heating the material in a partial vacuum, causing the active ingredients to boil into a vapor. The vapor is then pulled out through extraction chambers composed of metal or glass. The user ingests the vapor by inhaling a hose or pipe. The remaining vapor is kept in a bag or jar for future inhalations.

There are three types of vaporizers - thermal conduction, convection or thermal radiation. These types refer to the way the substance is heated. In thermal conduction, the substance is heated on a metal plate. These were the first types of vaporizers. In convection, hot air is used to heat the substance. This works faster and releases more active ingredients than conduction heating. In thermal radiation, the substance is exposed to bright light, causing a rise in temperature that releases the active ingredients. Such vaporizers are rare but are as good as convection vaporizers.

Because there is no combustion or burning in vaporization, there are no bad-smelling or poisonous fumes. Unlike smoking, the vapor doesn't release combustion byproducts like tar and has a low percentage of carbon monoxide and other cancer-causing chemicals. This also brings down the risks of secondhand smoke. Being colder than smoke, the vapor won't harm or destroy the lungs and throat.

Vaporization is also far better than other drug delivery systems such as pills or injections as well as smoking. This is why: apart from being painful, injections can transmit diseases through contaminated needles while pills can be affected by digestive juices and take longer to work. Obviously, we all know the bad effects of smoking.

The effects of vaporization are speedy since vapors move faster and are quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. Since it is pure, only a little vapor is needed to mimic the effects of conventional drug delivery systems or smoking. This leads to the precise delivery of active ingredients with the few side effects. These benefits make vaporization a good alternative to smoking. - 14130
