What Is A Prolapsed Hemorrhoids and how to Cure?

By Joel Maxford

Prolapsed hemorrhoids are hemorrhoids that are not in their natural position and actually extend outside of the anal canal. There are four different stages of hemorrhoids and three of them have prolapsed hemorrhoids. They include the first stage in which the hemorrhoid is not prolapsed. The second stage has prolapsed hemorrhoids but the hemorrhoids go back naturally when the bowel movement is complete. The third stage is when the prolapsed hemorrhoids have to be moved back into place manually and the fourth stage is when the prolapsed hemorrhoids remove outside of the canal.

Prolapsed hemorrhoids are internal hemorrhoids that hand outside of the anus. It is not understood what causes this type of hemorrhoids but it is though that an individual's lifestyle and stress play an important role. You can make lifestyle changes that can decrease your chance of acquiring hemorrhoids. This is a great preventative measure even if you have suffered from hemorrhoids in the past.

In most cases prolapsed hemorrhoids will need treatment, as this kind of hemorrhoid is considered severe. To avoid surgery you should have your hemorrhoids looked at as soon as possible and prevent them from reaching stage three or four. Most treatments used for stage one and two hemorrhoids are non-surgical and quite easy to do. Many times it is possible to get the hemorrhoids to go away naturally. However if your hemorrhoids have become prolapsed then you will need medical treatment.

Some older treatments such as dilation and a sphincterotomy are no longer used as there are much more effective treatments. In both cases the actual hemorrhoid isnot treated but the procedures try to treat the increases in pressure in the anal cavity due to the hemorrhoid. This is not favored as indiviudals tend to lose the control of bowel functions as the sphincter function is damaged.

Rubber band ligation and Doppler Ligation are two popular forms of treatment. Rubber band ligation works by using a rubber band to cut of the circulation to the hemorrhoid. This in turn causes the hemorrhoids to shrink and return to normal. Doppler ligation works under the same principal except that the blood vessel that is inflamed is tied off causing the hemorrhoid to shrink back to normal. Rubber band ligation is much less expensive then Doppler ligation and just as effective.

It is possible to have the hemorrhoid completely removed by having a hemorrhoidectomy. This can provide immediate relief and also reduce the chance of having the hemorrhoid come back though it can take a while to heal. You will need to be on pain and antibiotics to stave off infections and reduce pain.

A stapled hemorrhoidectomy is quickly becoming the treatment of choice. This treatment actually manipulates the stretched cushioning tissue that caused the hemorrhoid to move. In this way the tissue is refolded or even removed and then the hemorrhoid is stapled back into its original place.

Possible the best way to treat hemorrhoids is to prevent them from occurring. You can achieve this by drinking plenty of water, easting high fiber foods, avoiding stress, exercising regularly and having good personal hygiene. - 14130
