Some Meditation Tips For Beginners

By Gabriel

Meditation for beginners can be confusing sometimes. As the new person starts to investigate the available literature and instruction manuals out there, they are confronted by a mind-boggling amount of techniques, methods and requirments.

But often it is not the vast array of methods of meditation that will be the challenge for the beginner. It is more often a question of whether they have clearly defined their goals.

What is your specific goal to learn meditation? Is it to be healthy? To gain energy? Have a sense of mental peace or even enlightenment?

While each beginner may have different reasons or combination of goals they want to accomplished, they must be clear on the aspect that matters to them most.

This is critical as many people start meditatiing without a clear objective and years later discovered that they had wasted their time on something trivial to them.

Considering that there are thousands of methods of meditation, each designed to reach a certain outcome, it becomes even more important to plan out in advance.

Therefore, the first step in meditation for beginners should be to write down what they want out of their meditation and how long they expect to reach these goals.

When you have done that, the next step should be to investigate the types of meditation that will bring you there. Then look at how much time and effort is required to reach it and see if it falls within your lifestyle and budget. Far too often, beginners jump into a meditation program eagerly without checking, only to discover that they cannot keep up with the daily 3-4 hours of required meditation.

The 3rd step would then be to seek out qualified teachers who teaches the type of meditation you want to learn. It is preferable that you have a teacher for meditation, if not a book or manual might suffice if the meditation method is not risky or requires supervision. Now, on seeking instruction, the 2 things you should look at is the comptency of the teacher and the students. Does the teacher show the outcome (good health, etc) that result from the speicific meditation practiced? Does his or her students demostrate the fruitation of these outcomes? If the answer is yes to both then you have a good chance of succeeding, provided you put in the effort. If not, it may be either the teacher cannot teach well or does not know enough.

I hope the above tips in meditation for beginneers has been helpful. If you want to get a good introduction into meditation, be sure to check out our site. Thanks for reading. - 14130
