Treatment Of Hemorrhoid - Methods Of Prevention And Cure

By Ai Qin

If you are someone who suffers from hemorrhoids, perhaps you can find comfort in the fact that seventy five percent of all adults suffer from the same ailment at sometime in their lives. But, for a condition that is so painful, its prevention and cure are surprisingly simple.

Hemorrhoids, or piles, occur when the veins around the lower rectum and anus become swollen and inflamed. This causes extreme discomfort while passing stool, itching and irritation and bleeding from the anus, which in turn leads to the formation of blood clots inside the anus. The most common causes of hemorrhoids are obesity, pregnancy, constipation, dehydration from excess caffeine and alcohol consumption, anal intercourse, lack of fibre and moisture in dietary habits, and sedentary lifestyles.

External hemorrhoids occur at the distal end of the anal canal. Internal hemorrhoids occur inside the anal canal and often go undetected. This is because there are no pain receptors in sitting in this region. If left untreated, these hemorrhoids either become strangulated or prolapsed hemorrhoid where the vein becomes distended and is pushed outside the anus.

There are many treatments available for hemorrhoids and this depends on the condition and symptoms. External hemorrhoids that occur outside the rectal canal are with topical ointments and creams to decrease the pain, if detected early.

Surgical procedures are many depending on the severity of pain and inflammation. Most procedures such as Doppler filigation, sclerotherapy and hemorrhoidectomy help remove the haemorrhoid by cutting off the blood supply to the inflamed vein, which eventually causes the Hemorrhoid to shrivel and fall off.

Treatment for hemorrhoid is a relatively simple surgery that involves stopping the blood flow to the main artery that supplies blood to the inflamed vein. Doctors may choose to treat the condition with topical ointments and creams if detected early; or suggest procedures such as Doppler filigation, hemorrhoidectomy, or sclerotherapy depending on the severity of the condition and symptoms. - 14130
