Medical Breakthroughs on Obesity

By Jason Myers

WHO announced that there are already 1 billion adults who are overweight and 300, 000 of them are considered obese. The rising number of overweight and obese people has grown at an disturbing speed; it has even arrived at global epidemic sizes. Causes of obesity have been connected to over eating of food that are rich in sugar and saturated fats that are animal-based, sedentary lifestyle, and the modified eating patterns among cultures in highly urbanized cities around the globe.

Obesity is one of the many forces of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and some kinds of cancer. Presently obesity has tuned out to be one of the most public medical concerns specifically in developing countries.

If this problem is not resolved right away, people will be at risk of deadly diseases because of obesity. Medical science around the world has continuously in research of scientific breakthroughs about obesity. This is in response to the global need to stop health-related risk of obesity. A study in Albert Einstein College of Medicine's medical researchers has yet to be confirmed as one of the medical breakthroughs on obesity.

According to the study that maintaining the level of fatty acids in the brain can be the cure to obesity. Moreover the research aims to alter the effects of molecular substance malonyl CoA. This molecule is believed to have been an influence on the performance of the hypothalamus, which in effect enhances the appetite of an individual.

If the scientist can found a way to change the amount of malonyl CoA in the brain, people will not crave anymore for so much food. This research is posing pledge to treat obesity to children and adults alike, though it is yet to be tested on humans.

Medical scientists from Imperial College have discovered a way to suppress the craving for food among humans. Injecting a medicine that enhances the oxyntomodulin content in the abdomen was being done in diabetic patients. This hormone, which is produced naturally by the body sends out message to the brain that the stomach is full. - 14130
