Home Treatments Available For Hemorrhoids

By Ai Qin

The discussion of hemorrhoids doesn't occur that often. In fact, most people prefer to keep this subject to themselves. There are many home treatments available for hemorrhoids. For many of these treatments, you don't need to buy anything extra at the store.

The main home treatments for hemorrhoids include adjusting your diet; drinking more fluids and eating more fiber. If you need to, use a stool softener since, straining during a bowel movement will make hemorrhoids worse. Applying ointments to relieve the symptoms will make things more bearable.

Take it easy when wiping after a bowel movement. If you aren't able to change to toilet paper that is softer, try wetting the toilet paper you have. This is a less expensive home treatment for your hemorrhoids. You may also add some lotion to the toilet paper instead. Baby wipes are fantastic investment to make. They are extremely gently on your tender hemorrhoids.

Applying ice for about 10 minutes at a time should make the hemorrhoids shrink. This home treatment should be done several times a day, if you are able to. Follow this ice routine with a warm compress, again for about 10 minutes or so. Using witch hazel will also shrink and contract hemorrhoids. You can apply this with a cotton ball.

Avoid using soaps with perfumes or dyes in them. Also, stay away from the sexy underwear for a while. Good ol' cotton briefs or panties are the thing to wear. Cotton keeps moisture from building up. Loose clothing is an easy home treatment for hemorrhoids. The less pressure on the hemorrhoids, the better off you are.

Wearing cotton allows the body to breath and keeps moisture from accumulating. Loose clothing and rest will relieve hemorrhoid pressure. Don't stand or sit for lengthy amounts of time. If you need to sit for awhile, use an inflatable doughnut.

Make sure you lie down and rest as needed. Resting in bed will take pressure of the hemorrhoids. If you do need to stand, don't do it for long periods of time. Sitting can be just as bad for hemorrhoids as standing. If you need to sit for a prolonged amount of time, use one of those inflatable doughnuts. You can try all these home treatments as long as needed. The main thing you can do is be gentle down there! - 14130
