Poison Ivy Treatment and Remedies

Rashes by poison ivy generally happen in the spring or fall. Poison Ivy rash is caused when people touch the poison ivy or similar plant species.

Poison Oak plants occur only in California, Neveda, Oregon and Washington. Poison Sumac occurs in Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Louisiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. This plant is also found thru out the rest of the eastern US states as well.

A maple leaf shape is a characteristic of the poison ivy plant. Poison Oak has a display of red or green leafs with a shiny look. This species of plant is a relative of Poison Ivy.

Poison Sumac are the easiest plants to identify because they have reddish or grayish tip consisting of 7 to 13 stems.

Poison Ivy is not contagious. The way to get Poison Ivy, Poison Oak, or Poison Sumac is to touch the plants. Some people are immune to Poison Ivy but many people are not. Also, people that are immune to Poison Ivy may not be immune a year from now.

Shirts and Pants that are covering all of the skin when going into wooden areas is great way to prevent poison ivy rashes. If you can not wear long shirts and pants, make sure you can identify the poison ivy plant. Poison Ivy may be caught by prolong exposure to the plant. Some people are very sensitive to poison ivy. They may not necessarily need prolonged exposure to poison ivy before their skin break outs.

If you touch a Poison Ivy plant, wash your hands with soap and water immediately. If a rash starts to develop, use Poison Ivy Lotion on the rash. This remedy will help stop the itch and prevent infections.

Poison Ivy Pills should also be taken at a general interval to get rid of the rash. Pills should be taken every hour or two during the initial start of the rash. As the rash subsides decrease the usage to every 3 or 4 hours. As the rash starts to go away you can decrease the dosage even more.

Poison Ivy pills can help prevent the poison ivy rash. The pills give you a little more protection against poison ivy. The breakout may be more mild if this medicine is used. - 14130
