Kidney Stone Causes

By Xergio Rio

Are you or someone from your family suffering from kidney stones? If that is the case, few people are able to see your pain or that of your dear one.

You may be surprised to know that if one of your parents has kidney stone then the chances of acquiring are very high. A lot of medical studies tell us that kidney stones are carried through generations. So then, heredity can be one of the causes of kidney stone. Most of the kidney stones are made of the mineral calcium and hypercalcinuria. There is a predisposition to high level of calcium in the urine that may be carried from family generation to family generation.

Some persons have renal tubular acidosis and have problems metabolizing different chemicals including cystine (an amino acid), oxalate, (that's a type of salt), and uric acid (as in gout). These individuals are likely to developto kidney stone and one of the basic causes is heredity. It is one of the fundamental causes.

What else causes those kidney stones in your system? Geographical location. Medical studies show that some people have kidney stone partly due to geographic location. To give you an example, persons living in Southern United States have this risk increased. These geographical regions are called: regional 'stone belts'. The possibility of getting an infection is higher just for the fact of the warm climate and because of dehydratation, that means the water levels in their bodies are low.

This way, the urine can become highly concentrated. This makes these chemicals to bind together and that's the the beginning of forming nidus of the stone.

Diet is not a direct cause of kidney stone formation. If you are already prone to stone formations, then taking foods with have high calcium contents, just elevates the risk of kidney stone formation. That's why is advisable to stay away from foods with high calcium content. The person with no history of kidney stones does not need to worry much about the diet as the prone person.

But keep in mind that the person with kidney stone should take a proper diet so as not to encourage the stone to develop.

If you take (OTC) over the counter products, this can increase the risk of forming kidney stone. Persons who take water-pills or diuretics regularly and those that consume high quantities of antiacids that contain the calcium mineral, end up elevating the calcium content in their urine and for this reason, may increase the possibility of forming stones. Patients that suffer with HIV who take the medication called indinavir (Crixivan) have the risk of forming these indinavir stones.

To solve the problem you must understand the cause. This can start solving the problem itself. Know what causes kidney stone. It can help one take preventive measures. That way, kidney stones can stop being a problem.

An ounce of prevention is better than a cure. And the presence of kidney stone in the body has a lot to do with your daily eating habits. Strangely enough, healthy foods with lots of calcium content coul potentialy create a problem. The basic cause of kidney stone is the strong build up formation of calcium in our body.
