Overcoming Depression with Alternative Healing Practices

By Donna Burick

An often physically and emotionally painful condition, depression is a condition that affects millions of people throughout the world. It is an illness that should be taken seriously and not dismissed lightly. It varies in degree, from a mild state of feeling blue to a more severe condition that makes doing even the smallest thing difficult if not impossible and there many degrees between these two. Fortunately there are treatments available for those who suffer from depression. Among them are alternative healing practices that are worthy of consideration.

The mistake many people make is thinking that depression is just a case of the blues. Sometimes it is but often it is not. It is actually a situation in which a persons nervous system is not working properly. It is more than just a state of mind; it is a physical condition as well. If left untreated, a low grade depression can turn into a more serious clinical depression and a more serious, more painful condition. Treating depression is very important.

Depression is most often treated with prescription anti-depressant drugs. Sometimes they are absolutely necessary for recovery. However, there may be alternative healing practices that will work well for many eliminating the need for medication. Less severe cases of depression are especially well suited to these alternative treatments.

There are a wide variety of alternative healing practices for depression that give an individual the opportunity to find one or a combination that works well for them. What might work very well for one person, might not work for another and vice versa. But the sheer quality of alternatives opens the door of possibility for at least one of them to work.

Exercise appears at the top of most lists as an excellent means of counteracting depression. Exercise has been shown to raise a persons endorphin levels giving them positive feelings. Exercise is invigorating and raises your oxygen levels. Depression, in some cases, can be completely reversed through the use of regular physical exercise.

Two other forms of alternative healing practices for treating depression are yoga and meditation. Both have the ability to restore an individuals breathing patterns to a more normal, relaxed state. This is very beneficial to those suffering from depression. The physical benefits are positive as well.

Alternative healing practices like the BodyTalk System use energy therapy to reverse depression. This modality is able to clear out old, hidden blocks in your subconscious. These blocks may be the thing holding you in a drepressive pattern.

Using upbeat entertainment is one of the simplest of all the alternative healing practices available. You might like to try it out and see if it works for you.

Any form of activity that lifts your spirits can be considered alternative healing practices for depression. Using any of these practices or a combination of them may be all that is necessary to kick the depression without the use of pharmaceuticals. - 14130
