Cure Your Own Bronchitis At Home

By Paul Tamens

Do you have bronchitis and want to avoid a visit to the doctor? Depending on the nature of your case you may have no choice but to make that visit to the doctor. However, there are many cases that you can take care of yourself at home just by following a few simple strategies.

One of the first bronchitis cures that you can implement immediately is to make sure you get plenty of rest. In the fast moving society that we live in today many of us aren't getting enough sleep anyway. The body does most of its healing when we enter the deep stages of our sleep. Therefore, the more sleep you get, the better chances you have of curing bronchitis quickly.

Another factor in healing yourself of bronchitis is the environment that you find yourself in. You need to make sure that wherever you are recovering you create an environment that will aid the healing process not hinder it. If you or anyone around you smokes you need to eliminate smoke from your environment. You should also create a humid environment by using a humidifier or spending a lot of time in the bathroom with a hot shower running.

Mother always said to drink plenty of liquids when you were sick. This advice holds true for getting over bronchitis as well. As your body attempts to fight off the illness, it dehydrates quicker. To combat this, you must make sure you give yourself plenty of liquids to replace what you are losing. Water, juices and tea help. Soda and coffee actually compound this problem so avoid it while you are recovering.

Modifying your diet can also play a role in treating bronchitis. There are certain types of foods that add to the congestion. For instance, you want to cut down on your dairy intake. Now is not the time to go on an ice cream binge! Cut down on your milk, your cheese, yogurt, eggs, any type of dairy product. On the flip side, eat lots of hot liquid items like soup.

You can also take a trip to your local pharmacy and purchase some additional items to help treat the bronchitis or at least the symptoms. Over the counter cough suppressants like Robitussin will help relieve the coughing. Aspirin is good for the aches and pains that you may experience in your head or your chest. If you are suffering from fever you can take some Tylenol or a similar product.

If your symptoms continue despite the self treatment you are engaging in then it may be time to seek out a doctor. Your symptoms should go away after a few days or a couple of weeks. If they last for several weeks or more you should seek out a doctor so you can make sure you aren't suffering from a more serious disease. Otherwise you might find yourself with a more serious disease that is harder to cure because you waited too long to get it diagnose.

You probably don't need to seek out a doctor if you have a mild case of bronchitis. In most cases all you need is time and some of the treatments that we are recommending. By following these steps you should be able to cure bronchitis at home without having to seek out a doctor.
