Common Home Remedies for Treating Bronchitis

By Paul Tamens

If you are looking for home remedies that you can use to treat bronchitis there are many options available. There are home remedies that are based on eating certain types of foods and taking certain types of mixed recipes. There are others that are based on what you should be doing and what you shouldn't be doing. Regardless of which remedy you try, you want to see what works best for you while at the same time trusting your own judgment not to do anything that will harm your long term health in the process.

One of the best home remedies that you can implement is to simply change your diet. Too many of us have bad eating habits to begin with. If we would modify our diets to fall more in line with what we should be doing to build good health practices we will be able avoid many illnesses and more effectively treat illnesses that we have. With bronchitis, you should drink lots of water as water helps power the immune system. It also prevents dehydration, which has a greater possibility when fighting bronchitis then under normal circumstances.

In addition to water, you should also increase the amount of fruit you eat with your diet. Fruit also reduces the risk of dehydration as your body is able to feed on the water that is inside of the fruit that you eat. Your body also picks up on the vitamins and minerals that fruit contains. Some fruits you should be eating include apples, grapes, strawberries, oranges and pineapples.

Taking a hot bath can serve as a great home remedy to fighting bronchitis. You should fill the tub up with hot water (as hot as you can stand it). Add to the water Epsom salts, baking soda or dead sea salts. Soak in the bath water for at least 15-20 minutes. This type of bath makes it easier for your body to relax as well as creates a nice humid environment for you to breath in.

As far as what you can take to help cure bronchitis, there are many different formulas that are available to you. One formula is to use ginger in as many different things as possible. A great thing to mix ginger with is your tea as it clears up your nasal passages. Ginger also eliminates fever, which can occur if you have bronchitis that is a result of a virus invasion.

Another option for you to fight bronchitis is to get some fresh air while walking. Of course, you have to live in an area that has fresh air in order to do this. If so, the walk will help your body fight off the germs and also make it easier for you to breathe. However, you don't want to engage in a full workout as this will focus too much of your body's energy on working out and nto enough on fighting the illness.

If you live in an environment with lots of fresh air and a low pollen count, it is a very good idea to get outside as much as possible. While you certainly don't want to be running marathons (bronchitis patients should be getting plenty of rest), there certainly isn't anything wrong with taking a nice brisk walk outdoors. The fresh air will do your lungs well and serves as an effective home remedy against bronchitis.
