Will A Chiropractor Help Fix My Spine?

By Randy Goodson

For most people back pain is an unanticipated injury that can be debilitating and stop all productivity for quite some time. Many people just try to tough it out and if you turn to a traditional MD for treatment you may be prescribed the usual stupor inducing concoctions of pain pills, rest or exercises that take time to help out.

Chiropractors use quick movements that extend joints beyond their usual range of motion in one way or another. At the time of your adjustment, you may experience some stretching and cracking of your joints but that is normal. Some people are left slightly sore after being put back into proper alignment but that is expected if you are way out of line. Then you are one step closer to being better than before.

The best chiropractic treatment plan involves regular visits and regular adjustments. The typical adjustment schedule includes at least weekly adjustments and sometimes more than that to maintain good alignment. Dramatic spinal conditions can be treated over several months with several visits each month, and some back problems can be treated with only a few treatments, but each way you should consider regular visits with your chiropractor for maintenance.

Upon visiting your chiropractor you will be twisted and turned into various positions for adjustment, so expect that. When you are being adjusted, you will probably be lying on your back or side with the doctor twisting your body to align your spine. The entire adjustment will take a fraction of a second and you will be re-positioned after each one.

After aligning certain joints, the doctor may adjust other smaller joints that may be limited in their range of motion as well. As each position is adjusted and bones are returned to their proper position, the adjustment period will be concluded. Before scheduling your next visit, your doctor may ask you to relax on the roller table or another massage machine.

You spine should be more mobile and have less pain involved in its movement than before your adjustment. Look for a significant reduction in back pain and a great increase in back mobility and flexibility as you progress through your treatment. - 14130
