Dispelling the Myths about Hemorrhoids

By John Detlefs

There are many different myths circulating in the general public about Piles. These myths involve everything from what causes Hemorrhoids to hemorrhoid symptoms to hemorrhoid natural cures and treatment methods. Let us take look at the most common myths and then uncover the truths that lie beneath.

Myth #1 Hemorrhoids Gives You Bowel Cancer

This is the grand daddy of all hemroids Myths and is arguable the scariest. Thankfully you don't need to worry because piles absolutely do not cause cancer. To illustrate this let's examine the differences between Cancer and hemroids. Hemorrhoids are inflamed and swollen veins that have been created by extra pressure from the pelvic area, either by being overweight or from poor bathroom and diet habits leading to constipation. Cancer is caused when veins have been divided and are now out of control.

There is no way that piles can lead to cancer or the development of cancer, and neither do they cause colorectal cancer. Occasionally, an individual who already has colorectal cancer can be more likely to get hemorrhoids because of the pressure that the tumour places onto the rectal veins.

Myth #2 Hemorrhoids only happen to old people.

Afraid Not. Age does, however, play a part in the formation of Hemroids, or in the ease with which Piles are formed. So getting older does increase your chances of getting Piles. However they can strike anyone of almost any age.

Piles develop when distended and weak veins in the rectum become bigger and swollen. As a person ages the vein walls of the rectum have a tendency to weaken and that is what increases their susceptibility to hemorrhoid formation.

It's important to note that many factors lead to piles creation that then need to be treated. Not eating enough fiber of taking on enough water is a common example. Incorrect habits on the toilet can also cause piles. A bad diet and a sedentary lifestyle also contribute to hemroids as does long periods of sitting or inactivity (such as in an office environment).

Myth # 3 - Engaging in anal intercourse can cause Hemorrhoids

This is a very widely held misconception that anal intercourse can lead to hemorrhoids. It's simply not true, although anal sex can cause a flare up and irritate haemorrhoids that you may already have!

Myth #4 No Hemorrhoids Treatment Works.

You do not have to accept Piles as your plight in life! There are many things you can do to heal hemorrhoids and to treat them. For hemorrhoid relief and to cope with the pain, itching and burning look to hemorrhoid creams and natural remedies for hemorrhoids. Sitz baths are beneficial as is changing your diet to include more fiber. For the most severe cases of Hemorrhoids, surgery is a viable option. - 14130
