Cure Toe Fungus - Treatments and Prevention

By Larry Gallon

Treatment to cure toe fungus has got better in recent years. Onychomycosis or toenail fungus is a pretty familiar ailment that can ruin the looks of a toenail. The fungi that cause Onychomycosis feed upon the protein or keratin that's included in your toenail and that is why the toenail turns discolored and if no treatment is used, becomes disfigured. Diabetes or any other chronic conditions or disease that affects your circulation can increase the chance of getting toe fungus.

Toe fungus can become a painful and chronic condition if it is not dealt with early. Any change in the appearance of your toenails should be investigated, because it is not only toe fungus that can cause these changes. Sometimes the appearance of your toe nails can indicate other diseases. You should seek treatment for toe fungus before it leads to a more serious infection, again, if left untreated. It may become painful to walk if the nail becomes too thick, because it will be rubbing on your shoe.

There are many options available today, including a topical "polish" type treatment that is applied directly to the toenail. It contains anti fungal ingredients that work to kill the fungi causing the infection in your toe. There are also oral medications, but some of these drugs have serious side effects that many people cannot tolerate when they seek treatment for toe fungus. If toe fungus infections are persistent, they may even require surgical removal of the whole toenail.

Toenail fungus can be prevented by:

*Wearing comfortable shoes that fit well. *You should wear clean socks every day and if your feet tend to get sweaty, you may need to change your socks several times each day. *Allow your shoes to dry out thoroughly each day and if that is not possible, wear a different pair that is dry. *Wash your feet every day and dry them thoroughly. *Keep your toenails trimmed straight across rather than rounding them and don't cut them too short. *Try not to wear excessive layers of nail polish - this clogs the pores in the nail bed and prevents the nail bed from getting proper circulation.

Taking good care of your feet is important and it just makes sense to seek treatment to cure toe fungus, because you rely on your feet to get you around each day. Good personal hygiene can go a long way to preventing toe fungus and staying healthy. In my opinion, if you love your toes then you will learn whatever you can to make them happy toes and you a happy person. If you want to cure toe fungus successfully, you need to use a product that includes natural ingredients. - 14130
