How to Get Rid of Headaches

By Dr. Stephen Wander

Headaches are overlooked so much as a phase which will pass. Many people are unwise to the fact headaches are a sign of a problem, not just an uncomfortable moment in time. A very common cause of headaches are subluxations. These are stress responses which are caused by muscle spasms either in the neck or spine. They cause the spinal bones to lock up and this interferes the nerves causing disruption of communications to the brain.

The headache may seem like a dull pain or sometimes a sharp one, but a subluxation is a highly uncomfortable situation to have. If it is not treated or it is masked by drugs, then the problem could cause a problem to more areas. The neck and trapezius muscles are also highly affected but go untreated.

A chiropractor can assess the situation of constant or regular headaches. If there is a physical imbalance, whereby the spine or head is off center causing a subluxation, then the body's alignment will be affected as well. Another cause is emotional stress, as this can result in headaches and can be treated by appropriate doctors. The third problem of headaches is abuse of chemical toxins in the body. This can cause the communication between brain and indeed the nervous system to have problems. Headaches can just be a secondary problem to a more major one.

Regular chiropractic check ups can help restore balance and alignment which can in turn relieve or subdue the headaches. Subluxations are best treated quickly, therefore if you have regular or frequent headaches, which may include neck or upper back problems, a chiropractor can help diagnose and help fix the problem area.

Our chiropractors use specific adjustment techniques whereby forces are firmly placed in specific areas on the body to help guide and restore the body's balance. Depending on the problem we can offer massage, nutritional advice and detoxification in a drug free environment. Having a more natural remedy is immediately more beneficial for the body and therefore less invasive. Having the correct diagnosis of headaches is vital in understanding where your body needs adjustment and fixing.

Chiropractic treatment can take time to allow the body to adhere to the procedures and forces applied on it. Similar to dieting, the best way to treat the vertebrae, neck and therefore headaches is the calm and methodical way. This will ensure no further damage is done and wellness will be acheived.

Look for our clinic in Rockville and Gaithersburg, Maryland, and feel free to book an appointment with one of our practitioners. We can arrange an evaluation and check the body's alignment to determine the course of treatment. Whether you need massage or chiropractic adjustments, we can help.

As we have seen, having headaches are sometimes a byproduct of a much larger or primary problem. It is the body's way of telling the brain something is not right. Proper assessment and treatment can reduce the discomfort and increase the wellness factor of our patients. - 14130
