With our overindulgent diets, unhealthy fast foods, bad habits like smoking and drinking, our digestive systems are thrown off balance. Many people look to colon cleansing to detoxify but the question remains, is colon cleansing really safe and effective?

Also known as the large intestine, or the bowel, the colon is normally 1 to 2 meters in length. Its primary function is to remove waste products that remain undigested by our bodies. For example, the food that we eat contain nutrients, proteins and so on. When this food passes through our bodies, the nutrients it contains is absorbed into our system. Once all the appropriate nutrients are absorbed, only waste is left and this can include water, fiber and even bacteria more commonly known as probiotics.
