Before applying coconut oil to the skin, check to see if one is allergic to the substance by testing a small patch of skin first. If a rash doesn't develop, this usually means it can be used safely.

For those who are in constant fear of obtaining some type of infection or illness, coconut oil may help in reaffirming that one can lead a safe and fulfilling existence. Coconut oil has been proven to be effective against certain strains of microbes- meaning consuming the oil can help strengthen one's own resistance to sickness. Although the consumption should be moderated, however, as coconut oil has a high amount of unsaturated fat.

Luckily for consumers, all types of coconut oil can be obtained at a local general store. Coconut oil for frying or coconut oil for applying to the skin may be in different aisles, but most stores should stock several types of the oil so be sure to search before giving up hope.
