By Kerris Samson

There are various kinds anxiety disorder treatments that can be used. The most common kind of treatment is prescribed medication. But there are other more natural options that one can use instead. However a doctor will often prescribe medication and will then require their patient to undergo some form of therapy as well.

Often the most common forms of therapies, which will be used to treat any form of anxiety, is either cognitive behavioural therapy or psychodynamic therapy. But as we have previously mentioned if one chooses to and as long as they have agreement from their doctor a person can use natural remedies as well. Some people have even found these supplements made using herbs or plants to be effective when they are used in conjunction with massage therapy.

Yet all doctors today when treating any kind of anxiety disorder are going to first prescribe some form of medication. This will help to bring the condition under control much more quickly and once the patients anxiety has become stabilized they can start to explore other ways of treating the problem. The first type of medication that a doctor will prescribe for a patient is anti-depressants such as Paxil or Zoloft. Also the doctor may prescribe some type of mild tranquilizer as this can help to get the person in a more relaxed frame of mind. This can be extremely helpful to those patients when one of their anxiety attacks actually happens.

It is only after the patient has found a dosage that is effective for bringing their anxiety under control will they then start on some form of therapy. One particular form of therapy favored for treating anxiety disorders is known as behavioral therapy. It is through a course of this therapy a person learns breathing techniques to help them to face situations which are causing the anxiety to occur. However, this therapy is only effective when the person puts as much effort into achieving the right results, otherwise they will gain no benefits from them whatsoever.

Along with behavioural therapy, a doctor may choose to get their patients disorder treated using cognitive behavioural therapy instead. This is a form of therapy that goes into more depth and helps the person to recognise those situations or patterns, which is causing them to suffer from anxiety attacks. As well as recognizing the triggers, a person will learn ways in which they can change the situation in order to prevent an attack from taking place. So what they are in fact doing is learning of different ways they should be reacting in a particular situation.

As for psychodynamic therapy this is a treatment where they are trying to find what is the underlying cause for a person's anxiety problems. It is only by bringing this problems to the forefront can a person be able to resolve them and this in turn will help to alleviate the problems that their anxiety disorder is causing.

Even though you will find plenty of natural remedies that can be used for treating anxiety disorders, many are not considered to be ones that are used by the mainstream medical profession. Yes, passion flower extract, Valerian root extract and Kava Kava are beneficial as anxiety disorder treatments, but to be truly effective they need to be used in conjunction with other treatments. Such treatments, which work well alongside these natural remedies, are acupuncture and massage therapy.

Certainly, for those people who do suffer with any kind of anxiety disorder if its not controlled correctly it can be a very crippling condition. Yet as mentioned, there are plenty of different types of anxiety disorder treatments now available, so there is likely to be one or two that can help a person alleviate the problems that they are suffering from. But if they are choosing to use natural remedies then they need to discuss the matter with their doctor first in case they have an adverse effect on their current course of treatment. - 14130
