Herbal Remedies to Stop Bleeding Hemorrhoid

By Frank Young

Because there are no warning signs with hemorrhoids, many people are unaware of the condition, and by the time they start experiencing a burning sensation, itching, and/or stools speckled with blood, they already have hemorrhoids. Even though there are so many jokes in circulation regarding hemorrhoids, it isn't really a laughing matter. In fact, it's a serious medical condition which requires urgent treatment or else sufferers run the risk of infection as well as a number of other medical problems. The bottom line is; it's in your own best interest to know how to stop bleeding hemorrhoids.

Generally speaking, hemorrhoids are caused by the veins inside the anus and rectum becoming inflamed. These veins are located just below the surface of the skin in the anus and surrounding area. As millions of people have discovered, external hemorrhoids are not only extremely tender to the touch, but they can also be unbearably painful.

Wiping the area vigorously and using abrasive wipes can cause bleeding. To stop bleeding hemorrhoids, three herbal remedies are recommended Centella, Horse Chestnut, and Horsetail. You can use any of these to stop bleeding hemorrhoids. All of these herbs however should not be taken during pregnancy or when breastfeeding.

Centella has long since been known to contain certain properties which are both antibacterial and antiviral. This tiny leafy plant grows freely all year round in Asia and in some of the northern regions of Australia. In most cases, an extract of the herb is consumed in the form of tea. Not only does this help to relieve pain and inflammation, but it also helps to strengthen the veins.

Horse chestnut has also been used for ages in order to treat conditions which concern the veins, while an extract is derived from the seeds in order to soothe the affected area and also to relieve pain. One should however bear in mind that you should purchase such remedies rather than attempt making your own because the seeds need to be pulverized and repeatedly boiled. When in its raw form, the herb contains esculin which is known to damage red blood cell

Horsetail, also known as bottlebrush can help stop bleeding hemorrhoids and soothes inflammation. This is taken as a tea drink or dabbed on the affected area as a tincture. People prefer to take this treatment in tea form because it is convenient.

Pain and itching can also be treated by applying apple cider vinegar directly to the inflamed area. In fact, one or two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drank after each meal will also help to improve digestion and movement.

Witch Hazel has been used to treat varicose veins and hemorrhoids. This can be bought over-the-counter in several preparations such as lotions, suppositories and hemorrhoidal pads. As a cream, it is applied to the swollen hemorrhoid, as a pad it cushions the hemorrhoid while treating it. Witch hazel can be used internally but not in the alcohol preparation available in drug stores.

As with all medications, including herbal preparations, the treatments mentioned in this article should not be used without consulting with a doctor first. This is especially important if you're taking any other medication or if you have any other medical condition, due to the risk of possible side effects. For the most part however, as long as you're healthy and you're not pregnant or nursing, these preparations can be used safely in order to stop bleeding hemorrhoids. - 14130
