Should I Worry about my Diastolic Blood Pressure?

By Christian Goodman

Nearly everyone is aware of the dangers of untreated hypertension. It can lead to heart attacks, stroke, blindness and a number of other conditions.

I gained a personal interest in the topic having successfully recovered myself and will continue to educate and research this issue. It can have serious consequences but is also quite treatable.

A lot of people are very familiar with the range indicators related to blood pressure. A reading higher than 140 over 90 means high blood pressure, or hypertension and a readings of 120 over 80 to 139 over 89 can mean pre-hypertension.

Many are not aware though that even if the diastolic reading (bottom number) is low, that a high systolic reading (top number) can also affect health adversely.

A high diastolic blood pressure reading, which measures blood pressure when the heart is at rest, can also create health issues.

I recently published an article about systolic blood pressure and received follow up questions related to diastolic readings.

A diastolic reading over 90 is normally considered high blood pressure. If the reading is between between 80 and 89, pre-hypertension may be present.

Since the diastolic reading tends to go down as people age, it is important to take both numbers into account as this can give one a potentially inaccurate sense of healthy blood pressure.

More than likely, your doctor will want to prescribe medication if high blood pressure is diagnosed. This is not the time to be shy about sharing any concerns you have regarding side effects (including but certainly not limited to extreme muscle pain, internal organ damage, painful headaches, erectile dysfunction, skin rash etc.)

Taking a pill seems the easiest solution to a number of problems for many people. However, it is important to insure that the so called "cure" is not worse than the health problem.

I also highly recommend my High Blood Pressure Program. It is completely natural and includes easy but effective exercises.
